Michael Frederick Dewes, 69, of Ruckersville, VA, passed away on Friday, May 30, 2025, at Hospice of the Piedmont Center for Acute Care. He was born at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland, to the late William and Hazel Dewes. Mike was a proud graduate of Robert E. Peary High School in Rockville, Maryland, Class of 1974. Later in life, he pursued his calling in healthcare and earned a nursing degree from Piedmont Virginia Community College. He grew up in Rockville alongside his three siblings and spent a brief time living in Cocoa Beach, Florida before returning to Maryland. It was in Rockville where he met the love of his life, Kathy Dulin. The couple lived in Gaithersburg, Maryland for several years before settling in Ruckersville, Virginia, moving into Kathy's family home to care for her mother after her father's passing. Throughout his life, Mike held a variety of jobs, including service in the U.S. Air Force. His decision to become a nurse later in life reflected his deeply compassionate, caring, and gentle nature. He went on to work at both Augusta Health and Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital, where he was appreciated by patients and colleagues alike. Mike is survived by his wife, Kathleen Dewes; his siblings, Lisa Dewes, Michelle Phillips (husband, David), and William H. Dewes (wife, Martha); his nephews, Nick Phillips and Russell Phillips; and his niece, Samantha Phillips. Services will be private.
